Eligibility criteria
- Must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a university recognised by the Bar Council of India
- Maximum age: 30 years as on the date specified in the notification (General category)
- Age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), 10 years for PwBD
- Minimum 60% marks in LL.B. (55% for SC/ST candidates)
- Experience in securities law, corporate law, or regulatory practice is desirable but not mandatory

- The selection process has three stages: Phase I (objective — 120 minutes), Phase II (descriptive — 120 minutes), and a Personal Interview

- Phase II tests drafting skills, legal analysis, and case-study problem solving specific to securities regulation
- SEBI Grade A Legal Officers are posted at SEBI's offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, and other regional offices
- Starting salary is approximately Rs. 17.5 lakh per annum (Grade A pay scale plus DA and allowances)
- Previous year's Phase I cut-off for Legal stream was approximately 55-60% (per official result notification)
